Frozen shoulder may arise from shoulder injury or other conditions. Find out what it is and how to care for it.
What are the symptoms?
Frozen shoulder is a condition where the shoulders become stiff and painful. This condition develops slowly with worsening pain and stiffness over a period of time. Subsequently, the symptoms will resolve in 1 - 2 years.
What causes it?
Although not fully understood, frozen shoulder has been associated with conditions such as diabetes, thyroid problems and prolonged immobilisation of the shoulder.
How is it prevented or treated?
It is advisable to move the shoulder soon after any surgery or injury. Symptoms can be relieved by applying a cold compress to the affected area, or taking painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. Do check with our friendly pharmacists for more advice.
