What is the common cold?
The common cold is an ailment caused by viruses and is characterised by a range of symptoms. These symptoms can include sneezing, a runny nose, a blocked nose, a sore throat or a mild fever.
How long does it last?
It may last for about one week, but usually heals on its own.
What can be done to cure it?
Unfortunately there is no cure for the common cold. However, there are plenty of over-the-counter products available to manage the symptoms.
How can the symptoms be managed?
Some available treatments are:
- Antihistamines – to reduce sneezing and mucus production
- Decongestants – to unblock the nose and ease breathing
- Antipyretics – to reduce fever and alleviate pain
